So when it’s all figured out, plain and simple, this is about coming up just shy, about not living up to certain expectations which might or might not be our own. You know, sometimes it’s hard to draw a line between what’s our own and what’s - well - the other.
So what’s hidden behind, beneath or maybe even in those songs in minor keys is failure - a document of failure, urging us to push on. Whereto? I’ve not the slightest idea.
And even if I had, it’d still just be my idea, not yours. After all, we are in this all alone.
And I guess it’s well known, this line about borrowing a line, because there’s just this one line so good you couldn’t make it up on your own - you failed at making it up on your own, you know. And the one I’m thinking of is the one about the chance being just as fat as a unionist bureaucrat that life we want live ain’t the one we’re looking at.
